Acoustic Design with PET Felt for Metro Stations

Acoustic comfort is an important part of the passenger experience in metro stations. Large spaces and hard surfaces can increase sound reflections, while sound-absorbing materials integrated into the station architecture can help create a more comfortable environment.

This concept study by FeltVibe aims to reduce sound reflections through modular PET felt panels installed beneath the station’s barrel-vaulted canopy. Preserving the rhythm of the main structural frame, the design brings dark felt surfaces and linear lighting together in a cohesive ceiling arrangement.

The proposed system consists of a 12 mm PET acoustic backing layer and a 12 mm visible PET felt face. The modular panels are designed to allow maintenance access and individual replacement when needed. Panel dimensions and fixing details are developed to suit the station’s geometry and technical requirements.

This approach combines acoustic function with architectural continuity, offering a simple, adaptable solution for transport environments. Final material specifications and system performance will be determined through project-specific samples, testing and engineering assessments.
